An Introduction to Me and My Knitting Journey.

Hello,

I think I better start with an introduction about me and my knitting journey. My name is Amy, I’m UK based and I love knitting, crocheting and sewing. Well, I say love, I think I’ve become a yarn addict especially during this pandemic when there is little else to do but craft.

I rekindled my love of knitting when I went on a family holiday to Yorkshire. We went on an adventure one evening and came across this cute little pub. Inside the pub, I discovered a little basket with some knitting needles, half finished knitting and a little note…..

This is what I found in the little pub – what a lovely idea 😀

The idea behind it was that everyone knitted a few rows and recorded in the book where they were from. I did a few rows and it was like love at first stitch.

It was like those yarn and needles transported me back in time to when I was a little girl. When I was a child, I remember my Mamma teaching me to knit. She used to cast on the stitches and I used to knit. Mamma then used to spend lots of time unpicking and correcting all my mistakes to make it look how it was meant to look – seriously, she has the patience of a saint!

We made a blanket for my doll and I was so proud of it (even though Mamma did most of the hard work). I had a scarf on the go for a few years and would do a few rows every now and then but it never grew very fast. It was this little pub in yorkshire that really made fall back in love with knitting.

When we got home from that holiday… I made my boyfriend Daniel come with me to a local wool shop when we drove past it one day and bought myself some size 8 needles and some super chunky grey and pink yarn to make myself a scarf.

Before I started the scarf, I went home on a misson to learn how to cast on all by myself. It took me a while, but I finally mastered it!

I knitted myself two of these interesting headbands… which funnily enough I’ve never worn!

After the headbands and learning to cast on, I decided it was time to knit myself a scarf. My Mum had just finished knitting my Dad a red and white scarf, so I asked her for tips and she recommended how many stitches I needed and how many rows of each colour. It took me about a month and in between that I knitted myself 3 poppies and learnt to purl. This was such a big achievement for me at that time.

I was really proud of these poppies. I knitted them from a BBC free pattern for Remembrance Day. They took me ages at the time!

In that month, I became knitting obsessed, knitting at any point that I could, taking my knitting anywhere we went!

I finished off my scarf by learning how to cast off and how to make tassels.

I was so proud of my scarf and wore it whenever I had the chance to.

This photo was taken on my way back from the hairdressers – a luxury we took for granted until these Covid-19 times!!

I was well and truly hooked on knitting and I even knitted a few Christmas themed decorations that December too! A few months later (March 2020), Amy’s Knitted Bits was born – but that is a story for another blog!

Well, now you know abit about me and how my knitting journey began, hope you’ll stick around and enjoy seeing my creations and following my knitting and crafting journey.

Happy Knitting.
